ACF National Chef Educator of the Year – Les Eckert

Les Eckert

I learn utilizing many different learning styles therefore I believe a good educator, no matter the subject must be able to recognize those learning styles within their student body and teach to them. My presentation did just that. I presented material utilizing different teaching methods that reached out to kinetic, aural, visual, social, solitary, verbal and logical learners. In turn I presented the same material multiple times within the lesson just in different formats. My presentation and demonstration included audience participation, still photo tutorials, technique video clips, verbal and visual step by step demonstrations, and an interactive student leaner website and quiz. I encouraged learner centered participation and the use of technology during my presentation for increased levels of student engagement. Competing for the 2013 ACF National Chef Educator of the Year was an incredible experience. I learned so much about myself during this process and was fortunate enough to learn even more from my colleagues, competitors and judges. I would do it again in a heart and suggest to anyone unsure about applying to just do it!
