September 29th, 2013 marked the night of Gerard Marquetty and Les Eckert’s American Academy of Chefs dinner held at Avila Golf and Country Club in Tampa, Florida. The benefiting charities for the evening were the American Academy of Chefs and American Culinary Federation’s Chef and Child Foundation.  The evening started off with live piano music, a champagne reception and passed hors d’oeuvres all surrounding a beautiful American Academy of Chefs ice sculpture.

The evening progressed with seven amazing food courses and wines from Florida and the Pacific Coast. The front of the house staff was made up of Avila Staff and culinary students from the International Culinary Schools at The Art Institute of Tampa and Hillsborough Community College. The kitchen was full of high energy chefs creating their magic while focusing on culinary food treasures found right here in our wonderful state of Florida. The centerpieces had diners believing they were looking at real flowers. Everyone was quite surprised to found out the flowers were edible sugar confections.

The evening was a great success and the guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Gerard and Les cannot thank everyone enough for their guidance, time, talent and donations. By everyone we mean Academy Members, the ACF Tampa Bay Chapter, local chefs, purveyors and students.
