October President’s Message

I hope you all had an opportunity to observe the ACF News in this month addition of the Culinary Insider.  I am encouraged and eager to support and celebrate Childhood Nutrition Day during the month of October. At Land O’ Lakes High School, Academy of Culinary Arts our students will be involved with the Spanish students to celebrate our traditional Spanish Heritage month tasting, we provide a wholesome and healthy option to their planned meal being held in our dinning room.  This is a very important issue in all schools to introduce a healthy option to the daily diet routine of the student population. We have a constant battle with child obesity; we have introduced food options to offer a change of how our children eat. Our menus offer more fruit, vegetables, and salad offerings when we plan a catering menu for their event functions.  On October 15th we will celebrate with our Spanish classes an inspiring menu to enhance the student experience at school. We teamed up with ACF National to support this important day! Please do the same in your restaurant, club, ETC.

We as Chef’s can make a change! Please help!

In addition, I have received information about the American Lamb Board’s program for ACF Chapters. I will be competing in the recipe contest on behalf of the chapter with the assistance of my Academy of Culinary Students.

Please support the Arts Institute of Tampa where they will be providing a special menu for the VIP tent at the Clearwater Jazz Vacation.  The dates are October 17th thru October 20th. Come join the smooth Jazz music and great eats at the Jazz holiday. For more information, call 727- 461-5200.

On a final note, please congratulate Chef’s Gerard Marquetty & Les Eckert on their AAC Dinner, Chapter Fundraiser on September 30th. The event was held at Avila Golf & Country Club.  A Special thanks goes out to AI Students who perform fabulously in both front and back of the house operations.  Of Course, our Tampa Bay Chapter Chefs volunteered their valuable time to assist with this dinner.  Also, we would like to thank Cheryl Glass for driving down to this event to assist with the special evening.
