March President’s Message

March President’s Message

As I write this month’s chapter letter, I would like to remind our chapter members about the NEW ACF. Besides the changing of the guard at ACF National and a new board of directors, I hope you have had an opportunity to see the physical changes. Our New ACF & Chapter Logo very simple but, meaningful. Our National President Tom Macrina and our new board have begun the process in moving forward to bring all chapters to a new level of information, communicating the changes that are occurring at ACF National.  A few examples that I have observed are; when you view the ACF web sight, you will notice the Farmers Market Report to inform chefs of what is going on in the food service industry. There are up dates on new trends which the industry leaders are making available for chefs to possibility feature these items on their menus. Another possibility is to create new recipe collections with a change of focus in menu preparation and development. New recipes are being developed; they will be available to assist members when you visit the ACF web sight. You should also take a few minutes to view employment opportunities at the resource tab under job postings. Also don’t forget the many opportunities to attend the up coming SE Regional Conference in Charleston South Carolina April 26 thru April 30th & the ACF National Convention in Kansas City July 25thru July 29.

In addition to what has been going on with our national organization, our own Tampa Bay Culinary Association will be introducing a revised addition of the chapter bylaws which is currently being worked on by our Ethics Chairperson Chef Clyde Tanner, Director of Culinary Program at AI of Tampa, committee members Chef’s Rick Eppers and Alan Gazaway. We are hopeful that these will be available for the introduction of the new chapter executive & board of directors.

Get involved with our chapter. Your outgoing board has implemented our new policies & standards. You can make a difference in the continuation to enhance our chapter’s progress to again be 2014 SE Chapter of the Year! This year your executive board will be completing their two years in their respected positions, I would encourage all members who have an interest to become an executive or board member share your interest or to nominate a member in good standing with Cheryl Glass, cheryl@acftampabay.com our Chapter Administrator. Currently ACF Certification for Chapter President is required by our chapter bylaws, all other positions are open to our members. Cheryl will be sending out the next chapter newsletter to begin this nomination process.

After the executive officers are elected, the chapter president will appoint the new board of directors as the new term begins in October. The proposed dates for the new election process will begin in March. We will allow 90 days to except nominations for the executive board. May 31, 2014 the nominations will officially close. The ballot will be completed; it will be posted on the chapter web sight.

All chapter members who are members in good standing are eligible to nominate & vote. Property, National members and a few other types of memberships are not eligible to vote.  In the month of June the ballot will be posted for all chapter members to vote electronically. The official close of voting will be July 31, 2014. August we will announce the new elected executive board.  Jeff Fredrickson at the Tradewinds Resort in St. Pete Beach will host September’s awards dinner. There we will introduce your new elected officers, honor chapter members, sponsors, committee & board volunteers thru the last two years of service.

On a final note, please join us for two full fun days of activities. Our chapter picnic will be at Lettuce Park on Sunday March 16, 2014, it will begin at 10:00 AM TO 4:00PM.

On Monday, June 16 2014 our chapter golf outing. This year we will be at Innisbrook Resort, playing at the South Course. Check out the chapter web sight for more details.

I want to thank everyone for your support & dedication through the last few years. I have enjoyed the ride, it truly has been an honor to have be able to serve as your chapter president.

Warm Regards,

Michael Rigberg
